First Annual Humanities Fair

Organized by two seniors as a Senior Independent Honors Project, the first ever Humanities Fair at ACS was held on Wednesday, April 27th.

The celebration Reny Baykova and Kali Georgieva organized was dedicated to the contemporary social, cultural, and economic processes that shape the world in the 21st century.

Three invited guests gave short talks during the fair. The Antarctic explorer, Hristo Pimpirevshared his knowledge and exploits as he discussed the fascinating potential and issues surrounding the political and social use of Antarctica in the future. Nina Nikolоva shared her thoughts on contemporary climate changes – causes, consequences, and solution. And Todor Shopov discussed linguistic and cultural diversity.

Students gave presentations in Ostrander before the invited speakers presented. There were many intriguing topics -- everything from human rights to reform in the UN Security Council to electronic music and pop culture!

Finally, there was a bake sale to benefit relief and aid efforts for Japan.

Thank you to all students and faculty who participated and/or attended the Humanities Fair! We had a wonderful turnout, and we appreciate your support.
