World, Meet Ivan Ivanov

Ivan Ivanov 11/3 earned a place in one of the world's science Meccas, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Ivan is one of two Bulgarian participants in this year's Research Science Institute at MIT. His ACS mentor Elka Kondakova said, "This is a great success, since Ivan is one of the two who will underscore the talent of the children of Bulgaria and the prestige of the educational institution he represents."

Each summer, 80 of the world's most accomplished high school students gather at MIT for the Research Science Institute. RSI is the first cost-free to students, summer science and engineering program to combine on-campus course work in scientific theory with off-campus work in science and technology research.

From June 25 to August 5, the participants will experience the entire research cycle from start to finish. They will read the most current literature in their field, draft and execute a detailed research plan, and deliver conference-style oral and written reports on their findings.

Evgenia Sendova from the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, which performed the selection process, thanked "all young participants for their shared love of science and for teaching us new things within the realm of their other talents. Special thanks to their teachers – the admiration you shared for those kids was no exaggeration."
