Silver for Nora Paskaleva '25 at the European Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics

Congratulations to ACSer Nora Paskaleva ‘25 for winning a silver medal representing Bulgaria at the European Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI) held in The Netherlands July 21-27.

The European Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics is an international competition for young women under the age of 20 interested in Computer Science. It aims to address the fact that far fewer women than men decide to study or work in the fields of Computer Science, Informatics, and Mathematics. EGOI is similar in style to the International Olympiad in Informatics, with a week-long duration, two days of which are devoted to solving challenging algorithmic problems, and is held annually by a different country each year. The first edition was hosted by Switzerland in 2021, followed by Turkey in 2022, and Sweden in 2023. The 2024 edition was held in Veldhoven, Netherlands July 21-27. 195 contestants from 64 countries took part in it.

Nora was part of the four-member Bulgarian delegation. The results of all four young women were impressive, with Simona Hristova from Shumen winning gold (awarded to contestants scoring 510 points or above out of 800), Nora and Nermin Idiriz, also from Shumen, winning silver (awarded to contestants scoring 409-509 points out of 800), and Nora’s sister Reni Paskaleva (First Private Math High-school, Sofia) achieving an Honorable Mention.

Kudos to Nora and her teammates for their achievement, and may they continue to inspire other young women to pursue their dreams in the field of Computer Science and any field.
