Press Release responding to the reported incident whereby a dog pack attacked a resident of Malinova Dolina district

As per the information released earlier today, that “an ACS teacher is in the hospital struggling for his life, after he was attacked by a dog pack in the Malinova Dolina district of Sofia”, the American College of Sofia would like to clarify that the person who was attacked is not an employee of the school. Nevertheless, we take this opportunity to express our sincere concern that the stray dogs problem on and around the ACS campus is a continuous risk for our students and employees.

On several occasions the ACS administration has sent earnest requests for collaboration to various members of the Sofia municipality responsible for dealing with the issue, including Mrs. Mariya Boyadzhieva, Deputy Mayor responsible for ecosystem issues, ecology, and land protection at the Sofia municipality (dated October 13, 2011), the Director of the municipal division Eco Balance („Екоравновесие”) Mr. Iliyan Kardzhev (dated October 21, 2011), and to the Mayor of Sofia municipality Mrs. Jordanka Fandakova (dated 9 December, 2011).

The latter mentioned letter to the Mayor of Sofia municipality Mrs. Jordanka Fandakova was signed not only by the President of the school but also by all department heads working at the Ministry of Interior Affairs units near the school’s campus.

We urge the immediate collaboration of all responsible institutions and authorities in solving the stray dog issue.
