The American College of Sofia Names Science Building in Honor of Prof. Carl Djerassi
The world-renowned scientist, writer and art patron Carl Djerassi was a student at ACS until his departure for the US in 1939.
A remarkable person with 18 honorary doctoral degrees from prestigious universities the world over, three autobiographies, seven stage plays, five novels and three marriages on his resume, Carl Djerassi maintained: "Scientists are not necessarily narrow specialists, communicating in an incomprehensible language and dealing in the cloistered ambience of their laboratories with subjects far removed from everyday concerns. They can be as widely curious, and as self-centeredly imperfect, as scholars and thinkers in any intellectual endeavor and, at the same time, involve themselves with burning social issues”.
On June 9, at 11:00, on the ACS campus took take place the ceremony of naming the Science Building in honor of Prof. Djerassi in the presence of all students and teachers, of friends of the College and members of the Djerassi family.
