Sports Awards 2016
Once again, the sports awards this year became a heartfelt get together of student athletes and their coaches. The contagious spirit erupted into mighty applause and cheers, and shook Building #5 after classes.
The young athletes MC'd the ceremony, while the teams' captains took to the microphone to thank the teachers who guided them throughout the season. (This initiative was set last year by the ACS Sports Director Borislav Dimitrov.)
The most memorable was the reaction of the soccer players (who won the ACS Open for the first time in its history) who lifted coach Tom Houston into the air.
The heartfelt thanks and strong connection was also evident between the volleyball players and their coaches Raya Gigova, Alexis Liesman and Valeri Banchev.
Nancy Smith, the girls basketball coach, gave flowers to her entire team.
What stood out as most valuable at the ceremony was the idea of the students having the opportunity to thank Vesi Tepeshanova (the athletics team coach, girls soccer team coach and adviser of the cheerleading squad), Isabel Norwood (assistant coach of the girls football team), Matt Clapp and Colin Schafer (basketball team coaches), Ivaylo Dimitrov and Ivan Dinkov (table tennis coaches), Stefka Papazova and Arran Yip (tennis coaches).
The event culminated in a show by the youth group for street fitness and their mentor Bobby Dimitrov.
