Petko Bocharov Turns 95
Petko Bocharov, an ACS alumnus from the Class of 1938 and a popular Bulgarian journalist and translator, celebrated his 95th birthday with the premiere of his new book "Petko Bocharov at 95 Having Lived Through Three Bulgarias" (original title: „Петко Бочаров на 95 през три Българии“). The event took place on February 19 in the Vivacom Art Hall in Sofia, and was attended by numerous friends and colleagues of Mr. Bocharov. The book was published by Janet 45 Publishing House.
Petko Bocharov was born on February 19, 1919 in Sofia. After graduating from the American College of Sofia, he studied law at the Sofia University. In 1952 he joined the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA) as an English language translator. Later, he was promoted to deputy-chief editor.
He retired in 1983. Between 1981 and 1993 he often participated in the popular Bulgarian TV-show “Every Sunday” with comments on topics of the day. Thanks to his regular appearance on TV and vivid style while commenting on burning international problems and events, he became one of most memorable journalists of the 70s and 80s.
After 1990, his articles also started covering internal affairs. Nowadays, he writes for Novinar Daily mainly. Petko Bocharov is the most elderly active journalist in Europe.
