Kubrat Danailov Wins a Gold Medal at the Balkan Math Olympiad
Graduating senior, Kubrat Danailov, the only ACS student to represent Bulgaria in the Balkan Math Olympiad, won a gold medal at the May 4-8, 2011 competition, held in Yasi, Romania.
Nineteen teams representing eighteen countries attended this event. Approximately 110-120 students participated in the grueling competition. They were given four math problems to solve in 4 ½ hours. Most of the questions asked the competitors to “prove that something is true.”
Six students from Bulgaria participated in this event. In order to qualify for this regional Olympiad, students had to participate in national competitions in their native country as well as additional qualification rounds. Kubrat qualified for the Balkan Math Olympiad as “Bulgaria-6” – he was ranked #6 out of the 6 Bulgarian participants. And for the second year in a row, “Bulgaria-6” came home with a Gold Medal!
Congratulations Kubrat!
