Guest Lecture in Journalism

Ivaylo Vezenkov (bTV, Bulgarian International Television) shared his advice on interviewing with ACS eight-graders. In an informal and candid conversation, Vezenkov answered the students’ questions about fear, vocation, technique. “These are very good questions,” he admitted.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Illustrated by an interview with Katie Couric and a BiT talk with a journalist embedded in Syria, the students learned the importance of background preparation, of actively listening to your subject, of avoiding the dreaded yes-and-no answers.

Stay focused on topic but if the interviewee veers off into a newsworthy revelation be attentive enough to follow – is one of the more sophisticated advice that the future journalists will have to master.
