Green Conference Brings Together Experts and Students

Organized by ACS Seniors Raya Hadzhiyska and Yulina Nikolova

On March 7, the Green Conference, organized by ACS juniors Raya Hadzhiyska and Yulina Nikolova, Chairs of the Student Council's Green Committee, drew in 30 of their fellow students eager to delve into the world of environmental sustainability.

The conference featured a diverse lineup of speakers, each bringing unique perspectives and expertise to the table. Rumiana Parusheva, Head of Communications and Sustainability Manager at Siemens Bulgaria, highlighted the crucial role businesses can play in environmental protection. Her insights into how companies like Siemens are contributing to sustainable practices were appreciated by the attendees.

Apostol Dyankov, an ACS alumnus with extensive experience in environmental policy, shared valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities within institutional frameworks for environmental protection. His background as a State Expert and former Advisor to the Minister of the Environment and Water and also a Climate & Energy Program Manager at WWF Bulgaria provided a comprehensive view of the current state of environmental policies. The audience enjoyed his sense of humor, those stories he shared from his time at ACS (1996-2001), and his optimism in a pessimistic situation.

Lastly, Georgia Ivanova, an ACS Chemistry Teacher with a Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry, presented innovative chemical methods for sustainable energy production with hydrogen. Her presentation educated the audience on cutting-edge technologies at the intersection of chemistry and sustainability.

The Green Conference showed the power of collaborative efforts in promoting environmental awareness and action. Kudos to Raya and Yulina for organizing an event both informative and engaging!

If there has to be just one take away, let it be that cooperation, inevitably, will come back, as Apostol Dyankov closed his presentation.
