French Reading Challenge Accepted ...and Completed
Our student Francophones ranked third at the Défi Lecture (Reading Challenge) competition organized by the French Cultural Institute and held on March 21.
For months, students from across the country, mostly from French language schools, had been preparing to answer questions on a book provided to all participating schools. This year the book was Laurent Gaudé’s novel Death of an Ancient King, which received the 2002 Goncourt Prize for High Schools and the Book Publishers Prize in 2003.
Tenth graders Eva Yordanova and Yana Mitrova and their teammates from Grade 11 Aleksandar Nenov and Viara Getahun convinced right from the start and qualified for the "small final" with the highest possible score. Our team won that one and ranked third in the competition, only the French Language High School Alphonse de Lamartine - Sofia (1st place) and the French Language High School in Stara Zagora Romain Rolland - Stara Zagora (2nd place) ahead of us. Congratulations to the students for their effort in preparing, their self-control and resilience demonstrated in the competition!
