ACSers represent Bulgaria at the Yale Model UN Conference Europe in Geneva

Five ACS students took part in the Yale Model United Nations Europe, as part of "Team Bulgaria" consisting of a total of 12 participants and represented our country in Geneva, Switzerland, at the conference of the prestigious university held March 14-16 March, 2025. The team was put together by the Dream in My Pocket Foundation. ACSers Enya-Asena Dencheva and Nikola Loukanov (Grade 10), Isabella Traykova and Spas Stoimenov (Grade 11), and Illya Isachenko (Grade 9) demonstrated respectable knowledge and skills. In spite of the short preparation time, their participation made a serious impression with their work in the various committees, in the preparation and defense of the resolutions adopted by the committees, in competition with over 400 participants from all over the world. Delegates participated in the ECOFIN (the Economic and Financial Affairs Council), CSTD (Commission on Science and Technology for Development), SPECPOL (Special Political and Decolonization Committee), CEPA (Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement) and the Specialized committees.

The conference discusses global issues and seeks answers. The programme includes simulations of UN committees on topics such as human rights, sustainable development and peacekeeping, in which participants present the positions of different countries. The Secretary General, main inspiration and organizer of this largest conference in Europe is Lilia Chatalbasheva, ACS alumna of the Class of 2022, currently a student at Yale University. The YMUNE conference team also includes Velislav Vaglev ACS alumnus from the Class of 2024, a freshman at the prestigious university.

The team members had the honor of being received at the Permanent Mission of Bulgaria to the United Nations in Geneva, personally by Ambassador Yuri Sterk, Bulgaria's Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ms. Tsvetelina Dimitrova and other Bulgarian diplomats. The meeting gave the students the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of the Bulgarian diplomatic mission and to get "first hand" information on global issues of interest to them. This meeting further motivated them to be active and do their best at the conference, and most importantly sent the message of how important it is for young people to be active and make their voice heard!
