ACS Success at a National Translation Contest
Another year, another outstanding success for the ACS students participating at the national round of the Juvenes Translatores Annual Translation Shadow Contest. So we learned a month ago from Ms. Svilena Georgieva-Podlaszewska, a representative of the EU Commission, Directorate-General for Translation, who visited the College yesterday, March 5, to meet the young translators.
Senior Ema Yordanova became the national winner in the Italian-Bulgarian language pair category, and she came first in this category for a second year in a row. At ACS Ema is in the French profile and proficient in both French and Italian in addition to English, a brilliant student with multilingual thinking and creative mindset, as per ACS French teacher and Foreign Languages department chair Ms. Francesca Meo.
Junior Anna Dontcheva received an honorable mention for her exceptional translation in the English-Bulgarian language pair category and was praised for her skillful translation of the text's title AI - 'Aye, aye or My eye!' as ИИ - „О, да!“ или „Ай, какво стана́!“. In addition to her language and literature talent, Anna is a skillful jewelry artist, translation teacher Dr. Neda Zhecheva shared.
On March 5, Ms. Georgieva-Podlaszewska visited ACS to congratulate all ACS students who participated in the contest and to tell them a bit about her own journey to becoming a polyglot and a translator at the European institutions, hoping to inspire them to continue their pursuit of language learning and the special art of translation.
