ACS Seniors Tour Nursing Homes

Mila and Bogdana Breshkovi with yet another thoughtful initiative

Stories… They are an integral part of our lives, often shared and passed down through generations. At ACS, we recognize storytelling as a vital connection between people of different ages.

This past summer, ACSers Bogdana and Mila Breshkovi spent over a month of their vacation touring nursing homes across Bulgaria, sharing the gift of music - Mila on the piano, Bogdana on the guitar - with the residents and collecting their stories in return.

"My sister Mila and I have been playing the piano and guitar since we were six. Recently, we began performing together as a duo. Last Christmas, we played for our great-grandmother, who is 99, and we were delighted by how much she enjoyed it. This inspired us to think about the many elderly people in nursing homes who lack attention from younger generations. So, we decided to organize a tour of nursing homes across Bulgaria to share kindness and companionship. While playing music was a bonus, the real highlight was the joy on their faces and the stories they shared with us. By the end of our tour, we realized that we were the lucky ones. The people didn’t just give us smiles and hugs; they provided us with purpose—reminding us of our roots and the importance of remembering where we come from. This summer, we made them part of our present, and their stories will remain in our future," Bogdana shared.

What an amazing thing to do - dedicate one’s final summer before graduation to a meaningful project like that! How nicely Mila and Bogdana’s efforts highlight the importance of intergenerational connections and the rich tapestry of experiences that each individual has to offer.

Our rich history at ACS has taught us to value every story, no matter the year it happened, no matter who it happened to or who shared it - every story matters.

Mila and Bogdana were invited to speak about their thoughtful initiative on BTV’s morning show last week (in Bulgarian).
