ACS Senior Kristiyana Kalcheva Wins Translation Competition
Kristiyana received serious recognition for her work in the competition for interpreters, organized by the French Cultural Institute together with Kolibri Publishing House.
This year the fully new format of the competition included four stages. After the first stage, the jury ranked the works of six ACS students: Kristiyana Kalcheva, Andrea Popyordanova, Christina Tantcheva, Ana Milkova, Anastasiya Mavrudieva, and Andrea Vushkova. After the third stage, twenty-two finalists, among whom was Kristiyana, were assigned a task to translate a whole work (a short story) by a French author that had never been translated in Bulgarian. The student-finalists had twelve days to translate the short story which the jury had determined for them.
The competition proceeded on an individual level: young translators competed among themselves for the best translation of the work that they had received. The results were announced on March 7th. Kristiyana’s translation of the story “Les mots des autres” by Michael Olivier was approved by the jury and will be published. This is not the only recognition that she received: the jury, which consists of professional interpreters, gave first prize to Kristiyana for her overall performance during the first three stages of the competition. The awards ceremony, which will probably be attended by some of the authors of the translated works, will be held in May.
