ACS Celebrates International Day of Silence for the Fourth Time on April 11

The Day of Silence is a worldwide event that aims to raise awareness about topics such as bullying, intolerance, and discrimination. At ACS, we strive for creating and sustaining an environment free of any kind of discrimination, be it based on gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, etc. Participants in the event keep silent for one day to show their support for those whose differences force them to remain silent about their true identity and feelings every day.

This is the fourth time the Day of Silence is being held at the College. For the third consecutive year the ACS Embrace Club stands for adapting the international event to the ACS community. Students, teachers, administration, and staff are invited to participate in the Day of Silence by choosing to be either silent or a supporter for the day. Silent participants would not speak throughout the school day while supporters would be able to speak throughout the school day but will be showing respect towards the silent ones. This choice will be announced by the badge/sticker "silent" or a "supporter" the participants are wearing. Additionally, six "Safe Zones" will be available whereby teachers declare their classroom a place where a participant student can go if experiencing any difficulties during the silent day. During lunch, there will be a silent art project in Ostrander Foyer and after 8th period we will break the silence together with a performance of our Lotus Notes a capella group, music, and a balloon party.

Everyone is most welcome to participate! Our voice needs to be heard!
