ACS at Model United Nations

Ten ACS students participated in the 8th annual Model United Nations (MUN) Conference at the John Cabot University in Rome, Italy, on February 8-10.

9 juniors and one 10th grader, led by Dr. Zornitsa Semkova, met with a total of 110 students of 17 different nationalities coming from national and international schools from Italy, Spain, Turkey, Lebanon, and the USA.

At the conference, student committees debated topics like the nuclear proliferation in the Korean Peninsula, the humanitarian crisis in failed states, and the income gap between developed and developing countries.

The preparation period was intense and, at its end, overlapped with the January exam session but all delegates worked hard and produced insightful position papers, which allowed them to be valuable and active participants at the conference. Not only did delegates develop and expand their knowledge of the hot topics and the UN structure, but they also significantly enhanced their public speaking, writing, leadership, teamwork, and negotiating skills. As a testament of their contribution to the conference, it is important to mention that both resolutions adopted by the ECOFIN Committee were originally introduced by ACS, and that Denis Tomanov was on the list of recognized students.

The team would like to congratulate the JCU MUN Society for the great conference and to thank the ACS administration for the support in the preparation of the event.

And special thanks to Dr. Semkova for the leadership and for her contribution to this publication!
