ACS Students Attend a Model UN in Warsaw
Here is what they shared upon returning to ACS
From Friday, February 21, through Sunday, February 23, a team of 9 ACS Model United Nations Club members attended the Tadeusz Czacki High School MUN Conference in Warsaw, Poland, along with 180 delegates, most of whom were from Poland. Even though it was hosted by the Kozminski University and the University of Warsaw, the conference was adapted to be suitable for high school students. The academic level of preparation and knowledge demonstrated by the delegates was simply outstanding.
This year, the ACS team consisted of students of all ages, from inexperienced freshmen to long-term senior members of the MUN Club, and demonstrated dedication and commitment to learning while discussing global issues. The delegates worked in committees such as UN Women, the World Trade Organization, the Human Rights Council, the United Nations Environmental Programme, the Economic and Social Council, and the Security Council, and delved into a range of topics, including ways to resolve Japan's ongoing territorial disputes, the issue of contemporary witch hunts, the impact of economic sanctions on global trade and multilateral relations, the crimes against the media by governments, etc.
This conference gave a chance to experience an unfamiliar version of a MUN conference format and showed us a balance between serious work and finding time for fun and networking. We want to acknowledge the efforts that our delegates put behind their work in their respective committees and we are proud to announce that even in such a competitive environment, one of our delegates from UN Women, Raya Hadzhiyska, received formal recognition for her contribution to the final resolution.
We would like to express our special thanks to the organising team of TADMUNC, who put so much effort into making sure this event runs smoothly and it is a pleasant experience for all. Furthermore, we would like to express our gratitude to our teachers, Dr. Semkova and Miss Anachkova, who accompanied us on this trip and gave us encouragement and support, when we needed it. We are also grateful for the support of the ACS administration, who made this experience possible.
