A Silver Medal for Ivan Ganev and a Bronze Medal for Hristo Papazov from the 58th International Math Olympiad

 

July has been an exciting month for math lovers around the world with the 58th International Mathematical Olympiad taking place in Rio de Janeiro between July 12 and July 23.  ACS recent graduates Ivan Ganev and Hristo Papazov, both recipients of the ACS Math Department Award for 2017,  joined four other bright and bold young mathematicians and traveled to Brazil to represent Bulgaria in the challenging competition. The Bulgarian National team competed against students from over 100 countries. How do you think they did?

The Bulgarian National Math team placed fourth in Europe and 18th in the world.

Ivan Ganev earned the highest number of points on the team and won a silver medal.

Hristo Papazov won a bronze medal.

The team returned with three more silver medals and one more bronze medal.
