Stanimir Ilchev Visits the Business Club

The ACS Business Club and Ms. Zhanina Zdravkova continued their series of meetings with the architects of today's Bulgaria. After Mr. Nikolay Vassilev, the students had a visit by Mr. Stanimir Ilchev, former member of the European and Bulgarian Parliaments, chair of the National Movement Simeon II's parliamentary group and the movement's spokesperson.

Mr. Ilchev is known for his eloquence, a welcome change in our increasingly colloquial world. On a day that saw the news of yet another journalist team killed in Afghanistan, he dedicated his meeting with the students to an overview of a confusing and dangerous world.

With quasi-fascist rhetoric making a strong comeback into our mainstream discourse, a liberal perspective seems refreshing. In a candid talk before the meeting, Mr. Ilchev said, "It is important that young people know that it is not all chaos, that there is a path and there is a way through."

The Club members were also treated to a copy of Mr. Ilchev's book Europe Hears Us, a collection of his analyses, interviews and essays from his years at the European Parliament.
