A BEAUTIFUL DAY TO CLEAN UP VITOSHA NATURE PARK
On Saturday, the 23rd of October, nearly 70 students and 10 teachers from ACS joined other volunteers at Vitosha Nature Park to help pick up trash.
The Fall edition of Volunteering Days 2010 was sponsored by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria and the Bulgaria Charities Aid Foundation. Hundreds of volunteers participated in several different volunteering projects across the country, one of which was to pick up trash near the Dragalevtsi Monastery in Vitosha Nature Park.
Students and teachers met at the bottom of the Dragalevtsi lift and walked together to the Monastery where we were assigned different areas of the mountain to clean. Several small groups took the lift to Bay Krustyo and hiked down the hill picking up trash along the way. Other groups focused on parking lots and bus stops near the Monastery. And some groups hiked straight up hill trying to get some exercise while helping to keep Vitosha clean.
It was a beautiful, sunny day – not a cloud in the sky. The one complaint heard from the students was “there’s not much trash!” This is a good indication that Sofians take pride in their mountain and strive to keep it clean.
We hope to participate in the Spring edition of Volunteering Days 2011 – more information will be provided about this later.
