Latest News from the ACS Table Tennis Teams
On March 12th and 13th, the 9th annual ACS Open table tennis tournament took place here on campus.
Five teams participated in the girls division: ACS with one team, Private English Language High School, Spanish Language High School, Secondary School of Construction, Architecture and Geodesy "Hristo Botev", and National Trade and Banking High School. The final rankings are as follows:
2. National Trade and Banking High School
3. Spanish Language High School
4. ACS
5. Secondary School of Construction, Architecture and Geodesy "Hristo Botev"
Our players were Elena Balinska 12/2, Maria Ikonomova 12/5, Lilyana Maryanska 10/3, and Karina Eneva 8/7. Although we did not win a medal this year, I would like to congratulate them for their praiseworthy performance.
The final ranking is as follows:
5. Spanish Language High School
6. Secondary School of Construction, Architecture and Geodesy "Hristo Botev"
Our competitors Anastas Pushkarov 12/1, Martin Andronov 10/7, and Martin Damyanov 11/3 won silver medals. Georgi Georgiev 10/3, Petar Menkov 11/2, and Hristo Dimitrov 11/4 won bronze.
Congratulations to both teams! Even though the girls step back one position in comparison to last year, the boys presented themselves even better, because in 2010 the boys teams took 3rd and 4th places. Actually, this is the best ranking of the boys over the last 9 years.
The Regional Games of Mladost (first round of the City School Championship) were held on February 11th, hosted by the 144th High School. We took part with one girls and one boys team. Our girls ranked third (out of 4 teams) but we did not qualify for the second round. Our boys won first place (out of 5 teams) and qualified for the second round. The following students represented ACS: Lilyana Maryanska 10/3, Vesselina Ratcheva 10/2, Karina Eneva 8/7, Martin Andronov 10/7, Martin Damyanov 11/3, Aleksandar Penev 9/5, and Ivaylo Preslavski 9/2.
On March 12th, the second (zonal) round of the City School Table Tennis Championship took place. Our boys (the same four from February 11th, mentioned above) won against the three other schools: 130th High school, 201st Elementary school, and Professional School of Ecology and Biotechnology. Thus, our team qualified for the finals, in which the best 6 teams in Sofia will participate (date to be determined, sometime in April). We have a very good chance to win a medal. Good luck to all the participants!
