Performing Arts

Perform, Connect, Excel

In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum, the American College of Sofia is renowned for the exceptional extracurricular opportunities it provides. While a high GPA is valued, it is only one aspect of what we consider a meaningful and successful educational experience. The talents and interests of our students are equally vital to their lifelong success. Actively engaging with the arts helps young people develop self-expression, explore hidden talents, and grow as individuals.

The Performing Arts Program, led by а team of professionals with Program Director Boris Pankin includes the following strands:

Bulgarian Drama Program

Rehearses and performs plays in Bulgarian, celebrating our language, history, and cultural heritage through dynamic theater.

English Drama Program

Produces English-language plays while building essential theater skills like acting, directing, and collaboration.

Dance Program

A modern and contemporary dance group that shines at Christmas and Arts Fest events. In partnership with Vocapella Vocal Program, it creates an annual dance-and-song production starting in 2024.

Vocapella Vocal Program

Rooted in the legacy of ACS's former choir and the a cappella group Lotus Notes, this vocal ensemble delivers powerful performances. In partnership with the Dance Program, it co-produces an annual dance-and-song show starting in 2024.

Musical Program

Mounts full-scale musicals that blend acting, singing, dancing, and stage production. These are licensed school adaptations of original Broadway materials that rival professional productions in complexity and scale.

Joining these programs boosts confidence, fosters teamwork, and hones creative skills. These experiences create lasting memories while preparing students for college auditions, leadership roles, and lifelong passions. During busy but rewarding rehearsals, students build social circles and friendships for life. It is common, after a premiere, for parents to approach the creative team to express their admiration for the unsuspected talents of the young performers - achievements that often exceed all expectations.

Enjoy some captured moments from past productions and head over to our calendar for the next shows coming up at ACS.
