Summer School 2024

At ACS’s Summer School, for children aged 6 - 14 years old, we focus on using English through a variety of fun, interesting and practical activities. Every activity is overseen by a team of teachers  from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds who create a safe and joyful English-speaking environment for all participants, regardless of their ability in English. We believe this positive and immersive approach helps students learn the language naturally, in much the same way as a child learns their native language. Our Summer School program is designed to be interactive and enjoyable, with plenty of fun games, interesting challenges, and opportunities to socialise.

This year we have improved our summer program in several key areas:

• providing children with a morning seasonal fruit during their first break;
• reducing the size of groups of younger children, in order to increase the individual attention to each child;
• adding a daily task-based English lesson relating to the weekly theme;
• at the end of each week the parents will receive a newsletter with highlights from the week.

The program runs for 8 weeks, from 1st July to 23rd August 2024, Monday to Friday, from 9:30 am until 4:30 pm. All materials, lunch, snacks, and water are provided. You may register your child for any number of weeks you like and they do not have to be consecutive. Children will have the benefit of the wonderful learning facilities at ACS, the safety of having a medical team available at all times, a nutritious lunch provided by the College, as well as a piece of fruit in the morning and an afternoon snack before they go home each day. Any dietary requirements can be accommodated and the ACS Dormitory welcomes students from outside Sofia.

Children are grouped according to their age or school grade. We believe that children thrive in smaller groups, where they can form lasting friendships and receive individual attention from their teachers. If you would like your child to be grouped with an existing friend of a similar age, please let us know in advance and we will do our best to keep them together. 

Program

Our activities fall into three categories: classroom-based activities with a more academic focus, physical-based activities that focus more on movement, and daily English lessons. Every week, there's going to be a different theme that the kids can dive into to explore new and exciting facts.

‘Academic’ activities are based in our classrooms but may be taken outside if the weather is nice. These activities focus on developing skills such as critical thinking, emotional intelligence, self-awareness, politeness, sharing and collaboration. The subject may be art, maths, science, history, or whatever sparks the interest of your child. 

‘Movement’ activities take place outside (weather allowing) or in our sports hall or dance studio. These activities focus on developing skills such as discipline, teamwork, respect and sportsmanship, and spatial awareness. We aim for children to feel confident alone or in a team, in competition or just having fun.

English lessons are designed to challenge students to use and build upon their existing knowledge of English. Each lesson focuses on a particular task such as a role play, a game, or a project. This allows students to gain real-world skills whilst collaborating with and learning from their friends. More advanced speakers can help their friends to navigate the games and activities that will make language learning a fun and unforgettable experience.

How to register?

1. Fill in our registration form.
2. We send you the necessary documents for the enrolment.
3. You return the documents to us completed and signed by electronic signature/courier/in person.
4. Transfer the payment to the college bank account specified in the contract.
