English Language Courses for Children and Adults:
A full range of training is offered in these courses – from beginner to advanced. Each lesson is individually customized to the student’s knowledge and abilities, progresses at an appropriate rate, and results in the student being able to communicate effectively and confidently in any English-speaking environment. The added benefit of instruction by native speakers will help the student to develop their communication skills as well as learn about cultural similarities and differences.English Education Through Art:This course is for children of ages 6-13 years. Children will be taught by a native speaker and a professional art teacher. The aim of the course is to facilitate English learning by pictorial expressions, to use the art for supporting the emotional acceptance of the language, to stimulate creativeness and intelligence and also to educate tolerance and finesse in communications.
Preparation Courses for American Standardized Tests - TOEFL (iBT) and SAT I:
Current textbooks and teaching methods will be utilized to give the student the most up-to-date and thorough preparation for taking the TOEFL (iBT) or SAT I. Successful studying strategies will be demonstrated for the student, followed by the administration of practice tests. The student will leave this course confident in their knowledge and their ability to take the test.On-site English Language Courses for Our Corporate Clients:
A team consisting of one Bulgarian and one native speaker of English will provide instruction for corporate clients. Each course will be designed around the individual needs of the company or institution. Spring and Summer Programs for Children:The spring and summer programs for children offer all-day activities that promote development of English language skills, physical activity, creativity, and team work. Teachers and students from the American College of Sofia will engage the children in various activities that will help to improve their communication and social skills. A1 Basic user Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
A2 Elementary Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
B1 Intermediate Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling. Can produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
B2 Upper intermediate Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with German native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
C1 Effective operational proficiency or advanced Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit meaning. Can express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
C2 Mastery or proficiency Can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. Can summarize information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation. Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations.
Bulgarian language courses for foreigners:The course Bulgarian for Foreigners is designed to develop communication skills and increase fluency. Friendly atmosphere, every day topics and situations from the life of expats draw students into conversations that happen on a daily basis. Realistic activities guarantee maximum talking time. Grammar and vocabulary are presented and practised in meaningful contexts, making the material memorable and easy to be used outside the classroom.
